Getting started with Designeo is easy. To track your site’s traffic, monitor marketing performance, and make data-driven decisions, we’ll need access to your Google Analytics property. This guide walks you through the process step by step. It only takes a few minutes.

Before You Begin

Make sure you have Administrator access to the Google Analytics property you’d like us to work with. If you’re not sure, check with whoever originally set up Analytics for your site.

You’ll be granting access to our team using this email address:

Designeo Team Email: [email protected]

Important: These instructions are for Google Analytics 4 (GA4). If you’re still running Universal Analytics, that version was sunset by Google in July 2024 and is no longer collecting data. If you need help migrating to GA4, reach out and we can get you set up.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Go to analytics.google.com and sign in with the Google account that has Administrator access.
  2. In the bottom left of the screen, click the Admin gear icon.
  3. You’ll see account-level and property-level settings organized in columns. Under the Account column on the left, click Account Access Management.
  4. In the top right corner of the Account Access Management screen, click the blue “+” button, then select Add users.
  5. In the dialog that appears:
    • Enter our email address: [email protected]
    • Check the box for Notify new users by email so we get a heads-up.
    • Under “Direct roles and data restrictions,” select Editor.
    • Click Add.
  6. Once you’ve added us, shoot us a quick email at [email protected] so we can confirm everything is connected. We typically confirm within a few hours during business days.

Understanding Access Levels

Google Analytics offers several roles. Here’s what each one means and why we recommend Editor access:

Editor — This is what we recommend. It allows us to manage property settings, create and edit custom reports, configure events and conversions, build audiences, and connect integrations like Google Ads or Search Console. Editors cannot manage users or delete the property.

Analyst — Allows creating and editing shared assets like reports and explorations, but doesn’t allow changes to property configuration. This works if you’d prefer we only build reports without touching settings, but it limits our ability to set up conversion tracking, configure events, or connect other tools.

Viewer — View-only access to reports and data. We can audit and analyze but can’t take any action. Useful for an initial review, but not practical for ongoing work.

Administrator — Full control including user management. We don’t need this level of access and wouldn’t ask for it.

Account-Level vs. Property-Level Access

Google Analytics is structured in two layers: the Account (which can hold multiple properties) and individual Properties (each representing a website or app).

If you grant us access at the account level (the steps above), we’ll have access to all properties under that account. If you only want us working on one specific property, you can grant access at the property level instead:

  1. In the Admin screen, look under the Property column.
  2. Click Property Access Management.
  3. Follow the same steps to add our email with Editor access.

If you only have one property under your account, either method works the same way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will you have access to my billing or payment information? No. Google Analytics access does not include access to your billing details, linked Google Ads spend, or any payment information.

Can I remove access later? Absolutely. Go back to Account Access Management (or Property Access Management), find our email, click the three-dot menu, and select “Remove.” Access is revoked immediately.

What if I have Google Analytics linked to Google Ads or Search Console? Those are separate permissions. Giving us access to Analytics doesn’t automatically give us access to your Google Ads or Search Console accounts, and vice versa.

I don’t see the Admin gear icon or the Access Management options. This usually means your Google account doesn’t have Administrator-level access. Only Administrators can add new users. Check with the person who originally set up Google Analytics for your business.

What if I don’t have Google Analytics set up yet? No problem. We can set up GA4 for you, including the tracking code installation, initial event configuration, and any integrations you need. Just let us know at [email protected] and we’ll handle it.

Should I give access at the account level or property level? If we’re only managing one website for you, it doesn’t matter much. If you have multiple properties and only want us working on a specific one, property-level access keeps things scoped. When in doubt, just reach out and we’ll tell you what makes sense for your setup.
