Getting started with Designeo is easy. To manage your local presence on Google Search and Maps, we’ll need access to your Google Business Profile. This guide walks you through the process step by step. It only takes a few minutes.
Before You Begin
Make sure you have Owner access to the Google Business Profile you’d like us to manage. If you’re not sure, check with whoever originally claimed or verified the listing.
You’ll be granting access to our team using this email address:
Designeo Team Email: [email protected]
Important: Google has moved all Business Profile management into Google Search and Google Maps. The old standalone Business Profile Manager dashboard (business.google.com) has been retired for most accounts. The steps below reflect the current process using Google Search.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Go to Google Search (google.com) and sign in with the Google account that has Owner access to your Business Profile.
- In the search bar, type “my business” or search for your exact business name. Your Business Profile management panel should appear at the top of the results.
- In the management panel, click the three-dot menu (More options) or look for the Business Profile settings option.
- Click Business Profile settings, then select People and access.
- Click Add in the top area of the People and access screen.
- In the dialog that appears:
- Enter our email address: [email protected]
- Set the role to Manager.
- Click Invite.
- Once you’ve sent the invitation, shoot us a quick email at [email protected] so we can accept it on our end. Invitations expire after a period of time, so the sooner we know it’s been sent, the better. We typically accept within a few hours during business days.
Understanding Access Levels
Google Business Profile offers three roles. Here’s what each one means and why we recommend Manager:
Owner — Full control over the profile, including the ability to add and remove users, transfer ownership, and delete the listing. We don’t need or ask for Owner access. That should stay with you.
Manager — This is what we recommend. It allows us to edit business information, respond to reviews, add photos, create posts, update hours, manage Q&A, and view performance insights. Managers cannot remove the Owner or delete the profile.
Site Manager — A limited role restricted to creating posts and responding to reviews. Too narrow for meaningful optimization work.
Alternate Method: Adding Us Through Google Maps
If the Search method doesn’t surface your management panel, you can also add us through Google Maps:
- Go to maps.google.com and sign in with your Owner account.
- Search for your business name. Click on your listing when it appears.
- Click Manage your Business Profile (or the pencil/edit icon if you’re already verified as the owner).
- Navigate to Business Profile settings and then People and access.
- Follow the same steps above to add [email protected] as a Manager.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will you be able to change my business name or address? Managers can suggest edits to business information, but Google reviews certain changes (like name and address updates) before they go live. We’d always coordinate with you before making changes to core business details.
Can I remove access later? Absolutely. Go back to People and access, find our email, and remove us. Access is revoked immediately.
What if I have multiple locations? If you manage more than one location, you’ll need to add us to each profile individually. If your locations are organized under a Business Group, you can add us at the group level to grant access to all locations at once. If you’re not sure how your locations are structured, reach out and we’ll help you figure out the best approach.
I searched “my business” but nothing came up. This can happen for a few reasons. You may be signed into the wrong Google account, your profile may not be verified yet, or someone else may have originally claimed the listing under a different account. Try switching Google accounts or searching your exact business name. If you’re still stuck, reach out and we’ll help you troubleshoot.
What if my business isn’t on Google yet? No problem. We can help you create and verify a new Google Business Profile. Just let us know at [email protected] and we’ll get your listing set up.
What’s the difference between Google Business Profile and Google Maps? Google Business Profile is the tool you use to manage how your business appears across Google, including Search and Maps. Google Maps is where customers see your listing. When we optimize your Business Profile, those changes show up everywhere your business appears on Google.
Someone else claimed my business listing. What do I do? This happens more often than you’d think, especially if a previous agency, employee, or even Google itself auto-generated a listing. Google has a process for requesting ownership of an already-claimed profile. It can take a few days to resolve. Reach out to us and we can walk you through it or handle the request on your behalf.
